ADVOCATE FOR FERAL CATS

Change Your Community: With more than 70% of cats entering shelters doomed to be killed there, (virtually 100% of feral cats), change is greatly needed. The Alley Cat Allies: Create Community Change has the tools to help you advocate on behalf of cats and demand change! Use their research to back your work and use their tools to network and organize.

Community Relations Resources: Making yourself available, taking the initiative to communicate, providing first-hand knowledge and expertise on cat behaviour, and following through on your promises. These community relations techniques can save cats’ lives. Alley Cat Allies: Community Relations Cat Care can help you bring about widespread change in your community, and ensure that it continues to be a safe and happy home for both the cats and the neighbours.

Spread the Word: It’s easy to talk about feral cats and the current animal control and shelter system. More than anything, outdoor cats need a voice. To help, start talking. Here's how:
  • Call your local shelters and pounds. Ask them if they have programs for feral cats. Tell them you support humane standards of care for outdoor cats.
  • Contact your local elected officials. Tell them you want the animal control system to be held accountable and to change.
  • Tell your friends, family, pet sitter, groomer, veterinarian, and others that you don’t think it’s OK to kill healthy animals, just because they’re not socialized to people. Tell them how they can join and become part of the collective action.
  • Spread the word about National Feral Cat Day on October 16.

Start conversations about outdoor cats. The cats will thank you.
